2009 SAC Airforce Base Trip

On the weekend of 4/25-26/09, Boy Scout Troop 152 from Adel went on an outing to the Strategic Air and Space Museum in Ashland, Ne. (about 30 minutes west of Omaha on I-80). We camped by a lake in Memphis, Ne about 10 minutes from the museum. Other than it raining most of the time, we had a really good time (when does it not rain when you camp?) The museum is about 10 years old, and is dedicated to the history of the Strategic Air Command of the US Air Force (SAC). When I was in the USAF from 1984-88, the SAC museum then was at Offutt AFB (SAC Headquarters) and was not nearly as impressive. All the aircraft were sitting outside deteriorating from the elements. This one has everything inside in a couple BIG hangers with a few special exibits and theatres showing lots of history.
