2011 New Scout Troop Outing

On February 20, the Webelos II crossed out of the Pack.  The Troop had a welcoming outing at First Christian Church for the 'new' members of the Troop the following weekend.  We started the evening off with a 'Cracker Barrel' and games.  Everyone had a lot of fun hanging out and getting to know each other.  Towards the end of the evening a movie was popped in and the boys continued to slow down before going to bed.  On Saturday, everyone got down to work.  It started with biscuits and gravy and then reviewing the Scout requirements for rank advancement.  Once the Troop was comfortable with the 'New Scouts' knowledge it was lunch time and off to the Waukee YMCA for swimming test for Summer Camp, learned how to safely save a distressed swimmer, and time to explore the rest of the Y.  Late afternoon we came back to the church for a wonderful potluck with our families followed by our 'Crossing in the Troop' Ceremony.  During the ceremony not only were the 'New Scouts' welcomed into the Pack, they received their Scout rank patch, Troop Activity Shirt (aka Class 'B'), Troop kerchief and Boy Scout Slide.  We ended the perfect weekend with Scout Vespers.

As many of you may know, swimming isn't every bodies forteit.  We had a couple of Scouts test their abilities and achieve a level of achievement in the pool beyond what they thought they could do.  We are proud of those Scouts as well as the ones on the side of the pool cheering them on.  This was a great example of the Scouting Spirit.
